A Shooting in Seattle Autonomous Zone Leaves One Dead, Two Injured
An early morning shooting in the self-proclaimed Seattle police-free Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone (CHAZ) left one person dead and two injured. The deceased is a 19-year old man who succumbed to injuries at Harborview Medical Center, where fellow protesters had transported him. Two other people sustained gunshot wounds. One of the victims rescued by the police was shot on the arm and chest while the other was in critical condition.
According to eye witness reports, the shooter arrived in a black SUV vehicle armed with a rifle. Emergency dispatchers said up to six shots were fired, according to multiple 911 calls received in connection with the incident. The shooting took place at about 2:20 am Saturday at 10th Avenue and East Pine Street. Police have not identified the suspect or the motive of the attack.
Violent crowds prevented police officers from accessing the victims by forming a human chain. A group of protesters gathered to arrange the transport of the dead protester. When the police arrived, they could be heard shouting that the victims were not in the area. Seattle police department later released a statement describing how the rowdy mobs blocked police from entering the scene of the crime.
“Officers attempted to locate a shooting victim but were met by a violent crowd that prevented officers safe access to the victims. Officers were later informed that the victims, both males, had been transported to Harborview Medical Center by CHOP medics,” the report said.
Protestors occupying the zone have declared the area a police-free zone. A self-proclaimed leader named Raz was previously seen handing out AR-15s to young activists occupying the zone. He was also responsible for the brutal beating of a graffiti artist who filmed the assault and shared the video on social media.
Political leaders in Seattle say they are still communicating with the community leaders in the zone to ensure the security of protesters in the area. However, the situation in the area is slowly deteriorating, and it is just a matter of time before the area descends into total chaos.
Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is pushing universal background checks in our state, and if left unchecked, it will not be long until we see bills like this getting traction in Austin. Texas is embarrassingly ranked 29th for gun rights, and with the help of the political elites in Austin, we will surely rank among New York, California, and Illinois if left to their own devices. Please join our fight today, and help us restore Texas' place as the standard for the U.S.
