Saginaw, Michigan: A 34-year-old anti-violence campaigner has pleaded guilty to illegal possession of a firearm for a felon with criminal intent. Sparkle N. Roby appeared before Saginaw County Chief Circuit Judge Darnell Jackson on charges of “felonious assault, felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, and carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent.” The defendant pleaded no contest to these charges.

The felony firearm charge occurred when Roby used a gun to threaten a Unique Styles Beauty Salon employee after an argument. The alleged crime took place when Roby and the salon employee had an argument and Ruby promised to come back with a gun as she left. Five minutes later, Roby returned with a gun and threatened the employee.

One month before, Roby had organized an anti-violence rally named “Take a Step Walk” in response to shootings that had taken place in Saginaw within a few weeks. Prior to this walk, Roby had pled guilty to threatening to kill a witness to her brother's murder charge in which he’s now serving up to 50 years in prison. By pleading guilty to the charge, Roby was prohibited by law from owning firearms.

After pleading guilty the second time for a similar crime, the court dropped her firearm felony charges and released her on bail pending the hearing of her case. It is surprising that a repeat offender could be released so easily by a justice system that is hell-bent on disarming and convicting law-abiding firearm owners.

However, Roby’s case is not unique as there have been many anti-gun campaigners who have ended up committing the same crimes they hope to prevent. However, instead of the Democrats finding a way to keep such offenders away from law-abiding citizens, they expend all their efforts in disarming law-abiding citizens making them vulnerable to such maniacs who will still own guns regardless of what the law says.

Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is pushing universal background checks in our state, and if left unchecked, it will not be long until we see bills like this getting traction in Austin. Texas is embarrassingly ranked 29th for gun rights, and with the help of the political elites in Austin, we will surely rank among New York, California, and Illinois if left to their own devices. Please join our fight today, and help us restore Texas' place as the standard for the U.S.
