In the 2020 election cycle, Texas Democrats feel confident about their electoral prospects. Riding the unexpected overperformance of Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke in 2018, Democrats intend to flip a number of seats at the state and federal level.
According to a Dallas Morning News report released on September 28, Democrats are heavily focusing on Tarrant County. For years, Tarrant County has been one of the Republicans’ most reliable urban counties. As many urban centers across Texas (from Houston to San Antonio) have gone blue, Tarrant County has remained a solid conservative bastion. However, the tide may be changing since the 2018 Beto mania. In that election cycle, O’Rourke edged out Ted Cruz by a razor thin 49.9% to 49.2% in the traditional Republican stronghold. After this election, Democrats feel emboldened and are competing in seven out of the eight state houses districts in GOP hands in the county. The DMN noted that “Democrats came within a few thousand votes of victory in five of those races in 2018.”
Outside organizations such as Everytown for Gun Safety PAC spent $2.2 million on mail and digital ads for 12 candidates, with several of them running within Tarrant County. Groups such as Everytown can go on massive anti-gun spending sprees thanks to the deep pockets of donors such as billionaire magnate Michael Bloomberg. Although the former New York City mayor ran a failed presidential campaign, his power lies in his financial contributions. He’s propping up gun control groups left and right. With how polarized American politics has become, Bloomberg is making his presence felt in efforts to build a gun control consensus across the country.
Texas is one of his primary targets. For years, the Left and the pro-gun control constituents in its coalition have dreamt of flipping Texas and putting it on the anti-Second Amendment column. Given the state’s changing demographics and a GOP leadership that has remained asleep at the wheel on Second Amendment legislation that grassroots conservatives desire such as Constitutional Carry, the Left believes it can make a big splash during the 2020 elections. It’s undeniable that Texas is a solid, pro-gun state. Nonetheless, it still has work to do in order for it to become the most pro-gun state in the country. That’s where grassroots activists come in to hold politicians accountable and make sure that conservative policy items such as Constitutional Carry are actually implemented. The restoration of our gun rights is not inevitability. It will require proactive work and dedicated pressure to become a reality.
For gun rights to exist and even expand in the Lone Star State, gun owners must act in solidarity and support organizations that uphold our principles. No man is an island. As the great Benjamin Franklin once said, “We must, indeed, all hang together or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately.”
Organizations like Lone Star Gun Rights count on the generous contributions of readers like you. The radical Left is only getting more emboldened and the establishment Right has no idea how to fight back.
That’s why Lone Star Gun Rights exists. We are the ultimate check against the gun grabbers’ antics and will do everything in our power to fight against their attempts to undermine our sacred right to self-defense. But this fight won’t be easy, and we will need all the help we can get.
That’s why we’re counting on you to sign your Lone Star Gun Rights petition. Your signature sends a resounding message to the political establishment in Austin that their votes will be under the microscope. The grassroots will not just look the other way and let politicians destroy our God-given right to self-defense via closed doors.
I’m not going to sugarcoat it: The fights that are before us will not be walks in the park. The gun control crowd is looking to run a full court press against us. Which is why gun owners must have all hands on deck. On top of that, a fight to safeguard and eventually restore our Second Amendment won’t come cheap. Like anything worth fighting for, sacrifices will need to be made. Once you’re done signing your petition, could you please join LSGR today?
