Assault Weapons Ban of 2019 Filed in Senate
Updated: Oct 3, 2019
Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) filed a bill to ban 205 firearms claiming that the former “assault weapons” ban that lasted from 1994-2004 led to increased gun safety; a claim that the National Institute of Justice disputes in its report. The reports details that the reduction in crime was not a direct result of the weapons ban.
This new Assault Weapons Ban of 2019 is far more stringent than its predecessor. The current bill covers various common firearms owned by citizens, as the definition of “assault weapons” is still contentious and based on cosmetic features not related to a gun’s performance or its firing capacity. Such features include barrel shrouds, pistol grips, threaded barrel, and telescope features. Additionally, the ban outlaws any stocks that make a gun foldable or adjustable, as well as pistols weighing more than 50 ounces when loaded (meaning any AR pistols). It also goes beyond just rifles, and includes shotguns that fit Feinstien's arbitrary definition of "assault weapon."
Other items that became illegal include bump stocks, and (effectively) detachable magazines. In addition, the bill enforced various restrictions and background checks during transfer including sale, trade or gifting of any firearm in this category.
Additional bans include weapons with fixed magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds. For the exempted firearms, the ban requires that owners store grandfathered arms in secure gun storage facilities with safety features such as trigger locks. The grandfather clause allows owners to keep “assault rifles” that they legally owned before the ban; however, any transfer will only take place under the background check system regardless of whether it is a sale or a gift.
It is our belief that even the current background check system is incapable of working. Someone without even so much as a parking ticket can have nefarious motives, and no background check will ever stop that person. On the flip side, someone who had been guilty of a crime in the past can have pure motives, and the background check will only deny him of his natural right. Someone seeking to do harm will always find a way to do so, regardless of what laws are in place.
It is imperative that you sign our petition against gun control! These tyrants will stop at nothing to disarm us and transform us into subjects of our government. We are not subjects! We are freemen who demand liberty! Join LSGR today and help us in our fight! We will never compromise our beliefs regardless of who is in power. Our mission is to restore our natural right to bear arms to the way men like Madison intended: shall not be infringed!
