Biden's Gun Control Tax Would Collect Over $34 Billion From Firearm Owners
Biden would tax the life out of American gun owners should he become the president, according to the Washington Free Beacon and the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) figures. The media outlet projected that Biden would collect $34 billion from hardworking American firearm owners courtesy of his "assault weapons" and "high capacity" magazine bans.
Owners of such devices would be forced to register their weapons and pay a $200 tax under the National Firearms Act. The NSSF reports that there are 20 million rifles and 150 million magazines that would be subjected to the regulation. If a $200 tax were applied to the total number of rifles and "high capacity" magazines (170 million) a total amount of $34 billion would be realized.
PolitiFact tried to dispute that "assault weapons" and "high capacity" magazines' owners would be required to pay the tax for each item. The rogue fact-checker concluded that it was "not certain that Biden's proposal would automatically trigger a $200 tax."
However, Biden's campaign website referred to a Giffords article that clearly stated what we already know that the NFA says that "individuals must also pay a $200 transfer tax." Unless Biden intends to remove the transfer tax, the payment issue was non-negotiable.
Machine guns, short-barreled rifles, and silencers are already regulated under the NFA, and owners must register them with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and pay the $200 transfer tax. However, common firearms in use are exempted, but the Democrats plan on expanding the list of barred firearms.
Mark Olivia, NSSF spokesman said the high rate of firearm ownership was a sign that Biden should trend carefully.
"I think if [Biden and team] were smart, they would look at those numbers and get an idea of where America stands on gun ownership and gun rights," Olivia told the Free Beacon.
