Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, accompanied by the Police Superintendent David Brown, threatened Chicago residents with arrests for violating the city’s restrictions. The warning coincided with the bloody weekend that witnessed 49 shootings carried out by armed criminals in the gun-controlled Chicago. At least five people lost their lives between Friday 3:05 pm and Monday 1:00 am.
Mayor Lightfoot warned that if the residents acted like criminals, the city will treat them like criminals and arrest them. Surprisingly, criminals have been acting like criminals and facing no consequences. In fact, the state has released over 4000 criminals, including dangerous felons. The criminals probably have a list of better rules to break than a measly stay-at-home order.
One list of inmates released includes 761 individuals, some of them charged with murder, violent sexual assault, armed robbery, drugs, domestic violence, arson, aggravated vehicular hijacking, among other heinous crimes. The data was released by Kankakee County Sheriff Mike Downey, who opposed the release of the inmates. Another list contains a list of 403 class X of the most serious offenders, who have also earned their freedom because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The release of criminals has not worked well for many states. In another gun control utopia, California, criminals have been rearrested minutes after their release from the state prisons. Rocky Lee Music was taken back to prison barely 40 minutes after leaving prison when he carjacked a motorist.
It is also very hypocritical that Mayor Lightfoot would imprison partygoers while the city is releasing individuals convicted of more serious crimes such as violent murders and rapes.
While some states planned on restricting the purchase of firearms, it is evident that law-abiding citizens require more guns now than ever.
Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is pushing universal background checks in our state, and if left unchecked, it will not be long until we see bills like this getting traction in Austin. Texas is embarrassingly ranked 29th for gun rights, and with the help of the political elites in Austin, we will surely rank among New York, California, and Illinois if left to their own devices. Please join our fight today, and help us restore Texas' place as the standard for the U.S.
