Dad Loses Two Jobs After Shielding 3 Children From Gunfire In Gun-Controlled New York

Anthony Jefferson, 39, was sitting on a sofa in a car dealership, planning on surprising his wife with a car on her birthday. The father of three was accompanied by his children aged six, five, and two when three suspects stormed the building in Bronx, New York.

The hero dad heard a shot rang outside the window directly behind him. He hurriedly pushed his kids down to the floor from the sofa and tightly held them with his body to shield them from the gunfire.

Unfortunately, Jefferson was shot three times during the incident. One bullet struck his right thigh and two hit his boots. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

It was confirmed that one of the bullets lodged in his leg, causing him to undergo surgery for the removal of the bullet. He later lost his two jobs because he could not walk due to the injuries sustained. Jefferson worked as a construction worker on one job and as the head of painters on the other.

Jefferson's wife, Danica, said that his two employers terminated his contract because he could not walk. Serena Wingate, a family friend, created a GoFundMe page to assist Jefferson's family with medical expenses.

"Due to his injury, Anthony lost his job and has to have surgery to remove the bullet," Wingate said. "This Go Fund me is to help this heroic dad with his medical bills and his kids with therapy. They are beyond traumatized."

More than $281,000 has been donated from the campaign to help him and his family.

The heroic father was caught in the crossfire when the target returned fire.

Jefferson told WNBC-TV that after he heard the gunshots, his mind only thought of getting his kids out of harm's way.

"I was just being a father," Jefferson added. "If my arms would have stretched to everyone, I would have made sure I would have gotten them to safety.”

"They're traumatized," he said. "My 2-year-old gets up in the middle of the night screaming. It's heartbreaking."

Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is pushing universal background checks in our state, and if left unchecked, it will not be long until we see bills like this getting traction in Austin. Texas is embarrassingly ranked 29th for gun rights, and with the help of the political elites in Austin, we will surely rank among New York, California, and Illinois if left to their own devices. Please join our fight today, and help us restore Texas' place as the standard for the U.S.
