Democrats Terry Meza and Lina Ortega file bills in TX to ban magazines holding more than 10 rounds

Despite their abysmal performance in Texas, Democrats haven’t learned the clear message that Texans are sending. Texans say that they want to exercise all their constitutional rights and not just those that the Democrats approve.

However, this did not prevent two Democrats from filing two anti-gun bills that would deny Texans the right to defend themselves with the tools of their choice.

Terry Meza (HD-015) and Lina Ortega (HD-077) filed HB 178 and HB 234 that would magazines holding more than 10 rounds.

If passed, the bills would turn law-abiding Texans into felons for owning or transferring magazines holding more than ten rounds, commonly referred to as “high capacity” or “large capacity” (LCM) magazines. Additionally, it would put Texans at a disadvantage when confronting criminals armed with weapons of their choice and unlimited ammunition.

"Though I filed several bills today, all of which are important to House District 77, I would like to highlight some priority bills in the subject areas of healthcare and gun safety," Rep. Ortega said after the filing.

The Democrats want to impose the LCMs ban, which was proven to be ineffective in preventing crimes according to the Federal Assault Weapons Ban: Impacts on Gun Markets and Gun Violence, 1994-2003 study.

“Attributing the decline in gun murders and shootings to the AW-LCM ban is problematic,

however, considering that crimes with LCMs appear to have been steady or rising since

the ban,” the study found.

Democrats argue that LCMs cause more victims because criminals do not need to reload during an attack.

“Because shooters with such magazines can fire at large numbers of people without taking the time to reload, those in the line of fire do not have a chance to escape, law enforcement does not have the chance to intervene, and the number of lives shattered by acts of gun violence increases dramatically,” Giffords Center says.

However, the study disputed this fact indicating that there was NO evidence to show that that gun crimes were “less likely to cause death or injury than those before the ban, contrary to what we might expect if crimes with AWs and LCMs had both declined.”

The study also observed that fatal gun crimes slightly increased during the ban (2.94% between 2001 – 2002) than before (2.9% between 1992 and 1993).

However, these facts would not make any sense to Democrats wishing to recycle the failed policies in the name of “common sense” gun laws. Essentially, the democrats want to make us less safe while making us believe that their policies were improving our safety.
