DNC Speaker and Mass Shooting Survivor "Calls BS" On Gun Rights
The Democratic National Convention (DNC) started its first week with strong anti-gun rhetoric from gun violence survivors. On its third day, the DNC invited various anti-gun speakers to talk about gun control. Each speaker regurgitated the same falsehoods that the Democrats have spewed over the years about guns and violence. The Democrats hoped that by exploiting the feelings of the survivors and victims' families, they could sway the voters.
Among the participants were Emma Gonzalez, a Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School survivor, Gabby Giffords, a 2011 Tucson shooting survivor, relatives of the Orlando Pulse Nightclub shooting victims, members of the Moms Demand Action, and Joe Biden.
One speaker attempted to discredit various assertions made by the second amendment supporters. She disputed the fact that having stricter gun control laws has failed to reduce gun violence.
However, she failed to acknowledge the glaring evidence in Lightfoot's Chicago and de Blasio's New York. Both cities boast of some of the strictest gun control laws in the country despite experiencing gun violence incomparable to other major cities. Chicago, which has almost all gun control laws, including the "assault weapons" ban in Cook County, continues to be arguably the most crime-ridden city in the country.
The speaker also claimed that the idea of a good guy with a gun was a myth. She did not bother to mention the numerous incidents of potential mass shootings that were stopped by a good guy with a gun, many of which we have covered here.
For example, she ignored the West Freeway Church of Christ shooting in White Settlement, near Fort Worth, Texas, where a good guy with a gun stopped a church massacre that was about to take place in a church packed with over 250 congregants.
"They say that tougher gun laws do not decrease gun violence. We call BS. They say a good guy with a gun stops a bad guy with a gun. We call BS! They say guns are just tools like knives. We call BS!" Gonzalez said.
Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is pushing universal background checks in our state, and if left unchecked, it will not be long until we see bills like this getting traction in Austin. Texas is embarrassingly ranked 29th for gun rights, and with the help of the political elites in Austin, we will surely rank among New York, California, and Illinois if left to their own devices. Please join our fight today, and help us restore Texas' place as the standard for the U.S.
