Federal Gun Control on Hold (For Now) as Democrats Push Impeachment
Updated: Sep 29, 2019
The intense debate on gun control subsided, for now at least, after Democrats switched their attention from gun regulation and focused on President Trump’s possible impeachment. The calls for his removal from office emanated from his supposed dealings with Ukraine.
On Wednesday, Sept. 25, Trump said that the Democrats had lost interest in the ongoing gun legislation.
“Nancy Pelosi is not interested in guns and gun protection and gun safety. All she’s thinking about is this,” Trump said a day after he had called Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and promised a possible "solution." Trump issued the statement during a United Nations General Assembly meeting in the presence of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“Gun legislation is dead, at least for the time being, because of the impeachment inquiry,” A White House staffer told Stephen Gutowski, a reporter working for the Washington Free Beacon. Similarly, Stephen Grisham had issued a statement for killing any prospect of a solution on gun control after initiating the impeachment inquiry.
The Democrats accuse President Trump of pressuring the Ukrainian president to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden. Over 208 members of the House of Representatives had openly called for his impeachment. Pelosi had called for a full inquiry into Trump’s activities while House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) said that his committee was engaged in formal impeachment proceedings over possible Trump’s obstruction of Justice.
The White House later released the summary of the conversation, which also subsided the calls for impeachment. Some argued that the Democrats had rushed into the impeachment business while others accused the party of jumping ship on the gun control debate. The Democrats did not provide any further details about the ongoing debate on gun control thus giving credence to Trump’s remarks concerning the loss of interest in gun legislation.
None of this, however, is to absolve the President of his antics against our natural rights. Trump has already taken several actions against our right to bear arms, and has made several statements in the past of his intentions to implement more controls in the future. We firmly believe that this is merely a postponement of more gun control to come in the future, likely after that 2020 Election.
This is why it is imperative that you join LSGR. Your membership funds our fight against tyranny, from whatever front it may come, regardless of whatever political party seeks to do so. Our natural rights are sacred, and the mere recognition of the existence of such rights was the foundation upon which our entire nation was built.
