Hundreds of second amendment supporters gathered with drummers, blaring bullhorns, and placards outside Bloomberg’s campaign office during his “Gun Violence Prevention Tour” in Arlington. The number of second amendment supporters vastly outnumbered that of Bloomberg’s gun control supporters. The group consisted of the Virginia Citizens Defense League (VCDL), Patriot Picket, and ArfCom Regulars. The impromptu meeting consisted of members with blaring horns and a drummer leading the procession as the attendees marched on the sidewalk.
The placards bore various messages such as “We Will Not Comply,” “Gun Rights Are Women’s Rights,” “Bloomberg’s Bribes Buy Our Rights,” “More Patriots Than You Have Handcuffs,” and “Come and Take It.” One poster showed all the counties in Virginia that have adopted the Second Amendment resolution.
Bloomberg’s event was to drum support for stricter gun control within the Democratic circles. To their surprise, the participants of the gun control event were welcomed by second amendment drums, the kind that Bloomberg was not prepared for.
Confusion reigned supreme as the attendees scurried into the building only to find that Bloomberg had skipped his own event. However, his absence was not enough to drown the “Go Home Bloomberg!” the Pledge of Alliance, “God Bless America,” and “Guns save lives!” chants by the second amendment supporters. In addition, American flags flew high as the gun control advocates continued to mutter their gun control ideas, confused about whether to comply and go home or proceed with the failed rally.
The speaker of the event, Mayor Muriel Bowser, struggled to gain the attention of the cowed attendees of the gun control event. At the end of the event, the gun control small crowd sneaked out of the room demotivated. Like the VCDL Lobby Day Gun Rally, there were no violent incidents much to the surprise of the gathered law enforcement officers who did nothing to provoke the Second Amendment supporters.
Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is pushing universal background checks in our state, and if left unchecked, it will not be long until we see bills like this getting traction in Austin. Texas is embarrassingly ranked 29th for gun rights, and with the help of the political elites in Austin, we will surely rank among New York, California, and Illinois if left to their own devices. Please join our fight today, and help us restore Texas' place as the standard for the U.S.
