GOP Sens. Marco Rubio and Rick Scott Reintroduce The “Red Flag” Confiscation Bill Alongside Dems
Florida GOP Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott just announced they’re teaming up with radical anti-gun Democrats to push a “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation bill, S. 292. They will be joined by Jack Reed (D-RI) and Angus King (I-ME).
The “bipartisan” Extreme Risk Protection Order and Violence Prevention Act would reserve U.S. Department of Justice funds to create an “Order Grant Program.”
The funds would be used to encourage states to adopt a “Red Flag” gun confiscation scheme similar to the ones in Florida, Maine, and Rhode Island.
A state that enacts the confiscation law would receive funds to implement the laws and be eligible for Bureau of Justice Assistance discretionary grants.
The bill allows law enforcement officers and family members to petition for the confiscation of firearms from individuals on mere allegations of being a security risk.
“Congress must pass legislation encouraging states to enact laws to provide law enforcement or family members the option of obtaining a court order to prevent firearm purchases and possession by individuals who pose a significant threat to themselves or others while providing due process protections,” the bill states.
However, the accused is not heard during the initial confiscation and has to wait for weeks before he or she could challenge the orders. During this period, they are left vulnerable and have to incur costs to challenge the orders and have their firearms back.
While the bill suggests “providing due process protections” the phrase is a misnomer because the guns are taken away before the court could decide whether the subject actually poses a threat.
We strongly oppose this bill and request the GOP senators and any other pro-constitution legislators supporting the bill to reconsider their position on the matter.
So please call Senator Rubio at (202) 224-3041 and Senator Scott at (202) 224-5274 right away.
Demand they withdraw their support for the “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation bill and stop trying to appease the gun grabbers immediately.
