Bloomberg's Everytown for Gun Safety promised to spend $60 million to back anti-2A candidates in various elective posts across the country. The amount would be "double what it spent during the 2018 elections, and more than any gun safety opponent," according to a statement released on its website.
Shannon Watts, the founder of Mom's Demand Action, promised that the gun control movement would be more "aggressive, well resourced, and grassroots-powered electoral program ever."
However, a recent filing to the Federal Election Commission shows that the gun control group has spent $26 million so far, less than half of what it promised. With just $4.6 million in its coffers, Everytown will not hit its spending target. With just a few days to elections, chances of achieving its fundraising target are simply a pipe dream.
In September, the advocacy group raised just $1 million, with wealthy donors contributing 85%. Perhaps, the COVID-19 crisis affected the ordinary people's ability to contribute, or Americans were no longer interested in bankrolling gun control.
The gun-control group has also toned down its gun control propaganda and diversified its message to include other issues, such as healthcare and climate change. The group has realized that gun control is no longer the trump card they thought it would be.
The record numbers in gun purchases, including over 40% first-time buyers and liberals, prove this fact. Everytown was inspired by a Gallup poll suggesting that "voters for the first time consider it (gun control) a top-three motivating issue at the ballot box."
Times have changed since January, when Everytown thought gun control would change the direction of the November 3 elections. With most Americans facing real challenges, most are waking up to reality and focusing on real issues like the economy and law and order. Both issues have contributed to the rise in gun ownership.
Less gun control expenditure means that many Americans were spared from anti-gun propaganda. This situation denied the Leftists the ammunition they needed to gain power and enact destructive policies.
Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is pushing universal background checks in our state, and if left unchecked, it will not be long until we see bills like this getting traction in Austin. Texas is embarrassingly ranked 29th for gun rights, and with the help of the political elites in Austin, we will surely rank among New York, California, and Illinois if left to their own devices. Please join our fight today, and help us restore Texas' place as the standard for the U.S.
