Biden promised that he would defend the Second Amendment rights but his potential cabinet picks show that he misled Americans about his true intentions.
In anticipation of being declared the president, Biden picked five individuals who have expressed their disdain for the rights of Americans to defend themselves. Biden wants to surround himself with the most anti-2A individuals to achieve his disarmament objectives.
Biden’s Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra has been a staunch proponent of the “ghost weapons” and “assault weapons” ban.
While defending California’s ban in Rupp v. Becerra the HHS secretary nominee said that AR-15s could be banned alongside machineguns because they are not “typically possessed by law-abiding citizens for lawful purposes such as self-defense.”
He also sued the federal government to force the ATF to classify 80 percent receivers as firearms and impose background checks on them.
Dr. Vivek Murthy, the U.S. Surgeon General said that “guns are a health care issue.” Throughout his career in the Obama administration, he defended his position.
“The statements I’ve made in the past about gun violence being a public health issue, I stand by those comments because they are a fact,” Vivek said.
The nominated White House Domestic Policy adviser Susan Rice said that the pro-gun lobby has “bought too many members of Congress” to do its bidding. Ambassador Rice is also a regular at Moms Demand Action Events and her appointment was met with jubilation by Bloomberg-funded groups.
Referring to COVID-19 and gun violence, Moms Demand Action founder Shannon Watts said that “Ambassador Rice will be instrumental in helping tackle these dual public health crises.”
John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety said that Rice’s appointment proved that “Biden is continuing to build the strongest gun safety administration in history.”
Pete Buttigieg, Biden’s proposed Transportation Secretary, campaigned on gun control during the Democratic primaries.
“I’m announcing an action plan to combat the threat of white nationalist terrorism, abetted by weak gun laws and the gun lobby,” he said.
Additionally, Buttigieg recommended the creation of a nationwide gun licensing and registration system.
Other proposals included the enactment of universal background checks, an “assault weapons” ban, and holding the “gun industry accountable.” Buttigieg alluded to repealing the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), a major objective of a Biden administration.
Biden’s Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm proposed the banning of “armor-piercing bullets.” Unknown to her, Stephen Willeford would use an “assault weapon” and armor-piercing bullets to stop a church shooter at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, four years later.
Biden might argue that the selection of the five individuals had nothing to do with guns. However, it's not a coincidence that they all hold similar strong anti-gun positions. Biden plans to attack the Second Amendment rights of Americans from all fronts.
