Illinois Democratic Mayor Uses Coronavirus to Ban Firearm and Ammo Sales Through an Executive Order

For Dems, every catastrophe is a gun control opportunity and an Illinois mayor did not miss the opportunity to horde powers allowing her to restrict the sale of firearms and ammunition. Mayor Deborah Frank Feinen of Champaign town signed an executive order related to the Wuhan coronavirus, which gives her the ability to stop the sale and transfer of firearms and ammunition unilaterally.

"The executive order allows the city to be flexible to properly respond to the emergency needs of our community. None of the options will necessarily will be implemented but are available in order to protect the welfare and safety of our community if needed," her office said.

The mayor denied that the executive order gave her extraordinary powers, claiming that she already had such powers from the beginning.

"So many of those powers, I have had from the beginning," The mayor said. "All we have done is enumerate them, and now the public is aware of them."

We are Texalorians... Weapons are our religion.... This is the way, y'all... Show your Texalorian Pride with this kick ass shirt!

Apart from the ability to stop the sale of firearms, she could singlehandedly stop the sale of food, water, fuel, clothing, and other essential commodities in the city.

Despite her denial, the order gives her power to:

"Order the discontinuance of selling, distributing, dispensing or giving away of explosives or explosive agents, firearms or ammunition of any character whatsoever;"

Her office released a documentto dispel fears of her taking extraordinary powers to stop the sale of essential goods as well as firearms. However, the document listed only 10 of the 30 items they had voted on. It was evident that the mayor's office was trying to misinform the public about the contents of the executive order. No explanation has been provided why the mayor needs powers to stop the sale and transfer of firearms during a crisis like the Wuhan COVID-19.

Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is pushing universal background checks in our state, and if left unchecked, it will not be long until we see bills like this getting traction in Austin. Texas is embarrassingly ranked 29th for gun rights, and with the help of the political elites in Austin, we will surely rank among New York, California, and Illinois if left to their own devices. Please join our fight today, and help us restore Texas' place as the standard for the U.S.
