Under Joe Biden, gun owners would be required to sell back their "high capacity magazines" and "assault weapons" or register them under the National Firearms Act of 1934. Gun owners would then be required to pay a transfer tax of $200 for every item they possess. Under the "Regulate possession of existing assault weapons under the National Firearms Act" section, Biden's gun policy indicates:
"Currently, the National Firearms Act requires individuals possessing machine-guns, silencers, and short-barreled rifles to undergo a background check and register those weapons with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF)."
Any magazine capable of holding more than 10 rounds automatically becomes subject to the NFA and attracts the $200 federal tax. In his declining mental faculties, Biden even suggested that "high capacity magazines" included "magazines that can hold multiple bullets in them."
The definition of "assault weapons" is also amorphous and consists of some of the most common semi-autos such as AR-15s. If Biden were to win, many Americans would find themselves on the wrong side of the law, especially on "large-capacity magazines."
Under Biden's administration, gun owners would have to choose between paying a $200 tax of losing their legally acquired firearms and components. Additionally, the tax applies to individual items. If a gun-owner has an AR-15 and a "high capacity magazine," he or she would be required to pay $400.
Other inconveniences the gun owners would face include registering with federal authorities, submitting highly sensitive personal information such as fingerprints and photographs, and undergoing background checks.
Biden's policy further claims that "due to these requirements, such weapons are rarely used in crimes." Unknown to Biden, the "assault weapons" are also rarely used in crimes such that non-firearm weapons such as blunt objects, knives, strangulation and stomping, kill more people than "assault weapons" according to FBI's Uniform Crime Report.
While some might be tempted to think that these compromises were a small price to pay in exchange for safety, there is no proof that "high capacity magazine" and "assault weapons" ban makes us safer. Instead, it puts law-abiding gun owners at risk when facing criminals with unlimited ammunition.
Biden's plans for "assault weapons" are more sinister than most people imagine. His proposed policy is to create a soft landing for the final blow – a total ban. When CNN's Anderson Cooper asked Biden if his administration would ban all semi-autos as many gun owners feared, Biden responded affirmatively.
"Bingo. You're right if you have an 'assault weapon.' The fact of the matter is they should be illegal, period."
Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is pushing universal background checks in our state, and if left unchecked, it will not be long until we see bills like this getting traction in Austin. Texas is embarrassingly ranked 29th for gun rights, and with the help of the political elites in Austin, we will surely rank among New York, California, and Illinois if left to their own devices. Please join our fight today, and help us restore Texas' place as the standard for the U.S.
