The presumptive Democratic candidate Joe Biden selected Kamala Harris as his vice president, ending months of speculation. Harris has been staunchly anti-gun, perhaps not detailed as Biden but non the less intimidating for the firearm industry and the Second amendment. While the threat posed by the duo is only real if they win the election, her radical approach to firearms is worth taking seriously.
Harris believes she has the chance to pass gun control laws that Democrats have failed. The Democratic vice president appointee threatened to take executive action on guns if congress fails to pass gun control laws within 100 days of her taking office.
The former presidential contender said she would also force background checks on any vendor who sells more than five guns per year. She has openly supported "assault weapons" ban, universal background checks, bump stock ban, and raising the age limit for purchasing a firearm.
She also supported the "good cause" requirement for owning guns in California, thus denying law-abiding citizens means to defend themselves.
Harris said that the "Stand Your Ground" laws are racist and are used to sow distrust between communities.
The self-proclaimed gun owner says the Second Amendment can survive alongside gun control.
After the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, Harris said the citizens could not tolerate a country where children were being slaughtered.
"I support the Second Amendment, but we have to have -- we have to have smart gun safety laws," Harris retorted. "And we cannot tolerate a society and live in a country with any level of pride when our babies are being slaughtered."
She advocates for the same laws that failed to prevent the school shooting, which took place in a gun-free zone. She also ignores that the shooter was mentally ill, and addressing the mental health challenge would solve gun violence.
Biden had promised to use Beto O'Rourke as his gun control point man. O'Rourke favored confiscation of firearms from civilians as he admitted during his "Hell, yes, we're going to take your AR-15, your AK-47" speech. If Biden were to win the presidential election, the trio would pose a real threat to the Second Amendment.
Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is pushing universal background checks in our state, and if left unchecked, it will not be long until we see bills like this getting traction in Austin. Texas is embarrassingly ranked 29th for gun rights, and with the help of the political elites in Austin, we will surely rank among New York, California, and Illinois if left to their own devices. Please join our fight today, and help us restore Texas' place as the standard for the U.S.
