Governor Ralph Northam has directed all non-essential staff to stay at home during the much-anticipated Lobby Day gun rally in the state Capitol. The errand runners will also spend their day at home over perceived security concerns. Similarly, lawmakers have also instructed their aides to remain at home during the march.

However, committees from both chambers will still convene their meetings as usual. The Coalition to Stop Gun violence has also canceled its events “with a heavy heart” over “credible threats”.

In addition, authorities have made plans to limit the number of protesters inside the heavily barricaded enclosure to a certain limit. The authorities have however declined to disclose the number of protesters that they will allow within the square.

Only a third of the square will be accessible during the rally. The state authorities have installed chain link fences to create a pie-shaped enclosure for the rally. Protesters will access the chain-linked pen through the 9th and East Grace Streets and split into 17 lines as they pass through a metal detector.

Armed protesters will be denied access but not confiscation or arrests will be carried out. Protesters who intend to keep their guns will remain on the streets.

This arrangement will ensure that the large part of the march will remain outside the designated area thus try to reduce the impact of the rally. Meanwhile, Republicans lawmakers have warned hate groups to stay out of the rally.

"Lobby Day is a time for people to peacefully assemble and petition their government. It is not a place for hate and violence," said Republican Delegate Todd Gilbert. "Any group that comes to Richmond to spread white supremacist garbage, or any other form of hate, violence, or civil unrest isn't welcome here," he added.

Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is pushing universal background checks in our state, and if left unchecked, it will not be long until we see bills like this getting traction in Austin. Texas is embarrassingly ranked 29th for gun rights, and with the help of the political elites in Austin, we will surely rank among New York, California, and Illinois if left to their own devices. Please join our fight today, and help us restore Texas' place as the standard for the U.S.
