Lightfoot Demands More Gun Control, Opposes Federal Deployments in a Letter to Trump

With the rising murders in Chicago and the anticipated deployment of federal officers, Mayor Lori Lightfoot wrote a letter to Trump begging him to reconsider the decision.

Lightfoot advocated for more gun control, including the universal background checks, “assault weapons” ban, the closing of federal gun loopholes, enactment of red flag laws, investigation of gun trafficking by licensed dealers and social media, and the procurement of National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBM) machines. She also blamed the influx of illegal for the increase in crimes.

“We need you, as president, to take a leadership role in enacting common-sense gun control legislation, which you have so far refused to do. One of our many primary problems with addressing gun violence in Chicago is there are too many illegal guns that flood our streets year after year, seemingly without end.”

We are Texalorians... Weapons are our religion.... This is the way, y'all... Show your Texalorian Pride with this kick ass shirt!

Lightfoot continued to rant on how sixty percent of illegal firearms originate from neighboring states with lax gun laws and from federally licensed gun owners who sell them to criminals.

Regarding the deployment of federal officers, Lightfoot said that any military resources not under the direct control of the Chicago Police Department would not succeed because of the “unique circumstances of our neighborhoods.”

“Such a deployment of secret, federal agents who arrest and detain residents without any course and then deprive those residents of due process is clearly unconstitutional. It is a bad idea and I urge you not to do it,” the letter said.

Chicago has witnessed a spike in violence in the past six months, already exceeding the last year’s record. This weekend saw 65 people sustain injuries from shootings while 10 died. On Monday, July 20, 2020, over 25 people were shot while 4 lost their lives within a single day.

Lightfoot claims that federal agents could not succeed in combating crime, but gun control would, is ironic. Gun control has failed to reduce crimes in the city for all the years that the Leftist politicians have advocated for the same in Chicago. Contrarily, federal agents would succeed because they are not under the command of Lightfoot, who is notorious for preventing the CPD officers from doing their job.

Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is pushing universal background checks in our state, and if left unchecked, it will not be long until we see bills like this getting traction in Austin. Texas is embarrassingly ranked 29th for gun rights, and with the help of the political elites in Austin, we will surely rank among New York, California, and Illinois if left to their own devices. Please join our fight today, and help us restore Texas' place as the standard for the U.S.
