While looters flock into vandalized businesses to snatch anything they could find, some have turned to another item rarely associated with plunderers. Several gun stores have been vandalized and close to 80 firearms stolen from these establishments, according to owners and police reports.
Looters acquired 43 firearms after raiding Chuck’s Firearms on Miami Circle in Buckhead, Georgia. The former owner of the store, who works as a consultant in the same establishment, said the firearms stolen were worth between $500 and $4500 each. The vandals must have made away with some extremely capable firearms.
“They took advantage of a situation where the police were grossly overwhelmed that night,” said Jack Lesher. “It appears to me that the people who did it, based on the evidence so far, they were not part of the righteous protesters but up to thievery.”
In St. Louis County, Missouri, 34 firearms were yanked from a gun store in Southside Pawn and Jewelry shop in the 8100 block of Gravois Road. Affton Precinct Police officers were alerted by an alarm that went off after protesters broke into the pawn shop’s glass.
The burglary took place within five minutes and involved over ten suspects in six vehicles. The style of the burglary implies that the heist was carefully planned to coincide with the protests taking place in the area.
Apart from guns taken from gun shops, the protestors have also targeted police weapons by either snatching them from officers or retrieving them from burning patrol cars. Many criminals have taken the current unrest to obtain firearms that will end up in the black markets as well as criminal activities.
The ATF had issued a firearms advisory informing federal firearms license holders to take adequate measures to protect their guns from falling into the wrong hands. The AFT also requests information that would lead to the arrest of the criminals involved in the gun heists.
Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is pushing universal background checks in our state, and if left unchecked, it will not be long until we see bills like this getting traction in Austin. Texas is embarrassingly ranked 29th for gun rights, and with the help of the political elites in Austin, we will surely rank among New York, California, and Illinois if left to their own devices. Please join our fight today, and help us restore Texas' place as the standard for the U.S.
