Majority Of Texas First-Time Gun Buyers Voting For Joe Biden, Poll Says

Over 1.5 million Texans bought firearms during the current spike in firearm sales. While most gun buyers have always supported the Republican party, a new poll released by the Dallas Morning News and the University of Texas at Tyler paints a different picture.

The poll starts by enumerating the general statistics of gun ownership in the Lone Star State, where a third of Texans own at least one firearm. Seventeen percent (17%) of the gun owners bought a firearm within the past 90 days. Of all the purchases made during the time, more than half were first time buyers.

We are Texalorians... Weapons are our religion.... This is the way, y'all... Show your Texalorian Pride with this kick ass shirt!

Eighty-four percent (84%) of the firearm buyers within the last 14 days before the study were first-time buyers. While these statistics do not differ much from the countrywide trend, the poll reveals that 33% of the new gun owners will vote for Biden compared to 32% who will vote for Trump.

About 34% of all the Texans also voted in the July democratic primaries runoff, while 30% participated in the Republican polls. If the presidential elections were held today, 43% of all the Texans polled would vote for Trump while 44% would opt for Biden.

The preference for Biden by new gun owners shows that firearm ownership is expanding even in the democratic circles. For example, every one in nine democrats currently owns a firearm. Many of the Democratic firearm owners bought them during the current crisis.

Perhaps the driving factor behind firearm ownership is that most buyers agree that the COVID-19 crisis will lead to civil unrest. According to the poll, 48% of Texans believe COVID-19 would lead to civil unrest, with 51% of Democrats and 48% of the Republicans agreeing with these sentiments.

While polls have a history of not going as expected, the current survey shows that either the gun-owning landscape is going through small but significant changes or the new gun owners are falling for Biden's Second Amendment lip service.

Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is pushing universal background checks in our state, and if left unchecked, it will not be long until we see bills like this getting traction in Austin. Texas is embarrassingly ranked 29th for gun rights, and with the help of the political elites in Austin, we will surely rank among New York, California, and Illinois if left to their own devices. Please join our fight today, and help us restore Texas' place as the standard for the U.S.
