Chicago madness continued unabated over the weekend with the death of nine people, including a 9-year old boy who was the first victim of the weekend shootings. The boy was playing in a parking lot close to his home at 6 p.m. on Friday when stray bullets ripped his life apart and that of his family. Another 34 people sustained injuries from various shooting incidents within the Murder City.
While the Windy City has, in the past, witnessed darker days than this weekend, the statistics achieved a critical landmark in the abysmal record of the blame-shifting Mayor Lori Lightfoot. The Chicago police department released the crime figures, and there were no surprises.
Murder rates in Chicago went up by 139% compared to the same period last year. In July alone, Chicago registered 105 murders compared to 44 recorded during the same month last year. Similarly, the city recorded 406 shootings compared to 232 in July last year, which was a 75% increase in gun-related injuries.
Most of this weekend’s shootings took place between Friday and Saturday. During this period, 21 people sustained gunshot wounds, while 6 lost their lives. The first shooting incident involved a 9-year old, Janari Ricks, while the last victim was Allen Britten, 38. The last victim lost his life through a drive-by shooting while standing in the 6400 block of South Green Street. A vehicle drove by, and the driver opened fire on the innocent bystander, striking him on the head and back and killing him on the spot.
Meanwhile, Lightfoot insists Chicago is a safe city, save for the illegal guns imported from the neighboring gun-friendly states, such as Indiana. Despite her false claims, the ATF recovered 5,337 illegal firearms originating in Illinois in 2018. Indiana, which is Lightfoot’s favorite scapegoat, contributed to just 1,548. Despite the glaring evidence, Lightfoot will never admit that Chicago’s crime problem is a domestic issue caused by unsound Leftist policies.
Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is pushing universal background checks in our state, and if left unchecked, it will not be long until we see bills like this getting traction in Austin. Texas is embarrassingly ranked 29th for gun rights, and with the help of the political elites in Austin, we will surely rank among New York, California, and Illinois if left to their own devices. Please join our fight today, and help us restore Texas' place as the standard for the U.S.
