“Not A Rifle, Pistol, Or Shotgun,” California To Expand The List Of Banned “Assault Weapons”

California is currently discussing Assembly Bill 88 that will expand the list of banned "assault weapons" to include weapons with features that do not affect the lethality of the firearms. The bill was amended in section 40 to include any semiautomatic handgun without a fixed magazine.

Other changes introduced include A semiautomatic centerfire firearm that is not a rifle, pistol, or shotgun, or does not have a fixed magazine, or has any one of the features listed on the bill.

We are Texalorians... Weapons are our religion.... This is the way, y'all... Show your Texalorian Pride with this kick ass shirt!

Some of the features considered as qualifying elements for an "assault weapon" include a protruding pistol grip located beneath the action of the weapon, forward pistol grip, a threaded barrel that could accept a forward grip or silencer or a flash suppressor, a second handgrip, a detachable shroud or one that encircles the barrel preventing burning of the hands during firing, ability to accept a detachable magazine outside the pistol grip, or a semiautomatic firearm that is nor a pistol or rifle or a shotgun and can hold more than ten rounds. A similar firearm qualifies as an "assault weapon" if it is less than 30 inches.

Unfortunately, the word "assault weapon" is an amorphous term that the gun control activists could alter to mean anything they wish. Despite their claims of fighting for gun safety, some of the features targeted by the ban enable firearm owners to use their guns safely and avoid injuring themselves or others in the process. For example, shrouds prevent the burning of hands, which could injure the firearm owner and cause them to lose focus, thus injuring innocent people.

The inclusion of the words “not a rifle, pistol, or shotgun” implies more sinister motives intended to play around with the definition of firearms, thus unknowingly incriminating firearm users who aren’t aware of alternative definitions of such weapons.

Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is pushing universal background checks in our state, and if left unchecked, it will not be long until we see bills like this getting traction in Austin. Texas is embarrassingly ranked 29th for gun rights, and with the help of the political elites in Austin, we will surely rank among New York, California, and Illinois if left to their own devices. Please join our fight today, and help us restore Texas' place as the standard for the U.S.
