Shannon Watts of the Moms Demand Action sought to exploit ongoing protests to push her anti-gun and anti-cop agenda. The anti-gun group founder said that the alleged police violence was as a result of gun violence and that she was working with anti-policing experts.
Unsurprisingly, the lying mom said gun lobbies attempted to exploit the tragedies and disasters to promote gun ownership.
“We know that the gun lobby exploits tragedy and national disaster to juice gun sales. We’ve seen them do this all the way back to Hurricane Katrina,” Watts said in an interview with Fortune Magazine. “Of course, they did it again when the coronavirus crisis hit.”
Ironically, the anti-gun lobbies are the ones who exploit every mass shooting and national disaster to push their political agenda. During Hurricane Katrina, there was widespread confiscation of legally-owned firearms.
Similarly, during the current COVID-19 pandemic, liberals across the country closed gun shops and shooting ranges as well as restricted open carry and issuance of permits, despite the Department of Homeland Security directing firearm-related businesses to remain operational.
Gun right groups went to court to fight the exploitation of the COVID-19 emergency by leftist politicians, especially in Virginia, California, and New Jersey. Legislators from states such as Pennsylvania and North Carolina passed laws to prevent liberal governments from exploiting emergences to deny law-abiding citizens from exercising their Second Amendment rights.
Shannon Watts’ speech got murkier as she desperately tried to explain how gun lobbies promote gun sales by claiming that the police cannot protect citizens during emergencies.
“They have a variety of marketing tools they use where they talk about natural disasters and chaos and how the only thing that will protect you is a gun. It’s very much: the government, the police—they can’t and won’t protect you and you can only protect yourself. There’s a lot of messaging around the need, particularly, to protect yourself from looters.”
When the police are overwhelmed by looters on the streets, when emergencies affect police response rates, when the anti-police legislators abolish the police departments, when states release convicted felons back to the society, the law-abiding citizens have no choice but to depend on their guns for security.
Despite promising that the police would protect citizens contrary to gun rights groups’ assertion, Watts admitted to working with anti-policing groups.
“Police violence is gun violence and that’s why our movement must be responsive as well. We’re partnering with leaders and organizations who are experts against policing.”
Understanding the logic of gun control is an impossible task. At one moment, they claim the police will protect you but still want to abolish the police. Most importantly, they want you to remain helpless, with no police and no gun, but with multitudes of lawless looters and felons on the street.
Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is pushing universal background checks in our state, and if left unchecked, it will not be long until we see bills like this getting traction in Austin. Texas is embarrassingly ranked 29th for gun rights, and with the help of the political elites in Austin, we will surely rank among New York, California, and Illinois if left to their own devices. Please join our fight today, and help us restore Texas' place as the standard for the U.S.
