Florida Clay County Sheriff Darryl Daniels said he was determined to quell violent protests using all means possible. Sheriff Daniels said he would make deputies all legal gun owners to help address the violent protests if his department felt overwhelmed. Daniels made the statement in a three-minute video shared across various online platforms. During the remarks, he was accompanied by his current 18 deputies.
Sheriff Daniels, who is who is the first black sheriff to be elected in Clay County, did not mince his words. He warned “Black Lives Matter or any other group that’s making themselves a spectacle disrupting what we know to be our quality of life in this country” to stay out of Clay County.
Daniels said residents of his county would not bend their backs for the lawless mobs. He said his deputies had the backbone to stand in the gap between lawlessness and the citizens they swore to protect. He was clear on the extent he would go to keep violent protesters out of his county.
“If we can’t handle you, I’ll exercise the power and authority as the sheriff, and I’ll make special deputies of every lawful gun owner in this county and I’ll deputize them for this one purpose to stand in the gap between lawlessness and civility.”
Sheriff Daniels said the relationship between the community and the police was excellent in Clay County. He advised residents not to take part in the debate demonizing the law enforcement by saying the police were the enemy of the citizens. He said that on the contrary, his officers had sworn to protect the citizens.
Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is pushing universal background checks in our state, and if left unchecked, it will not be long until we see bills like this getting traction in Austin. Texas is embarrassingly ranked 29th for gun rights, and with the help of the political elites in Austin, we will surely rank among New York, California, and Illinois if left to their own devices. Please join our fight today, and help us restore Texas' place as the standard for the U.S.
