SOUTHERN POLICE ASSOCIATION CONFRONTS RALPH NORTHAM’S GUN CONFISCATION AGENDA
The Southern Police Association has declared its opposition to Governor Northam’s gun control and confiscation agenda. The executive director of the Southern States Police Benevolent Association, Sean McGowan, indicated that armed law-abiding citizens were not a threat to the police or the state. He added that such citizens were best friends with the law-enforcement.
"Members of the law enforcement community throughout the South stand united with our fellow officers in Virginia in opposition to Governor Ralph Northam's gun confiscation scheme.” He said. “We know that a well-armed, well-trained, law-abiding citizen is our best friend.”
McGowan remarks came after the Virginia House Public Safety committee passed various bills infringing the rights to gun ownership in the state. The bills impose a limit of one handgun purchase for thirty days, universal background checks, and extreme risk protection orders for gun confiscation from people alleged to be a threat to themselves and the public without the commission of any criminal act.
Most people perceive Governor Northam as just a rubber stamp for the Democratic billionaire Michael Bloomberg whose massive contribution to the Democratic campaign allowed the Democrats to take over Virginia after staying over a quarter-century in the cold.
Both Bloomberg and Northam have denied they intend to confiscate people’s weapons. However, the gun controls proposals that the Democrats have tabled outlaw the ownership of rifles such as the AR-15 without invoking the grandfather’s clause. This makes it impossible to keep such firearms after the laws come into effect.
S5hap Petersen, Creigh Deeds, and Lynwood Lewis have also pointed out this inconsistency in the new laws. Senator Petersen has indicated the lack of clarification regarding the fate of the residents in possession of the affected firearms when the ban came into force.
The majority of firearm owners have vowed not to surrender their guns, saying they will use any means possible to defend their property from unconstitutional confiscation. 91 out of 95 counties and 15 out of 38 independent cities, and 33 towns have declared themselves as second amendment sanctuaries prohibiting local authorities from enforcing gun control laws.
Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is pushing universal background checks in our state, and if left unchecked, it will not be long until we see bills like this getting traction in Austin. Texas is embarrassingly ranked 29th for gun rights, and with the help of the political elites in Austin, we will surely rank among New York, California, and Illinois if left to their own devices. Please join our fight today, and help us restore Texas' place as the standard for the U.S.
