Grayson County Sheriff Richard Vaughan was among the people who attended the Lobby Day gun rally. The Grayson County Sheriff stood alongside his deputies holding a sign with the words "WE SUPPORT THE SECOND AMENDMENT." His office captured the pictures and posted them online. “We are here to s and up for the Second Amendment,” the Sheriff Vaughan said during the rally.

He reiterated his initial position on the issue of gun control.

“If the bills go through as proposed, they will not be enforced,” he declared in an interview during the march.

“They’re unconstitutional. We swore to uphold the constitution of the United States and the constitution of Virginia, and that’s what we’ll do.”

Sheriff Scott Jenkins said that he will deputize thousands of gun owners should the laws pass. Sheriff Vaughan has been a vocal critic of the proposed gun laws within his state. His county is among the over 90% of Virginia counties that have declared a second amendment sanctuary status and vowed not to enforce the gun control laws.

Thousands of protesters attended the rally despite the warning of possible violence, which did not take place.

Meanwhile, Democratic legislators passed Senate Bill 35, Senate Bill 69, and Senate Bill 70 as protesters marched in the state Capitol. Senate Bill 35 allows localities to ban firearms from public spaces during some events while Senate Bill 69 limits the purchases of a handgun to one gun per month for a person who is not a licensed gun dealer. Senate Bill 70 imposes universal background checks for all firearm transfers.

Republican Sen. Amanda Chase indicated that the good guys will no longer have guns and won’t be able to protect themselves from criminals who won’t obey the gun control laws. “The good guys won’t have the guns,” senator Chase said. “They won’t be able to protect themselves, and we’re basically creating a disastrous situation in which criminals will not follow the law, and it will only hurt and create victims.”
