VIRGINIA GOVERNOR NORTHAM SEEKS MORE FUNDS TO JAIL GUN OWNERS
As the Gun Crisis looms in Virginia, Democratic Governor Ralph Northam is seeking additional funds towards incarceration of law-abiding gun owners after the enactment of his proposed gun laws.
According to his budget proposals in HB30, Governor Northam seeks an additional $250,000 for the purpose of sentencing and adult correctional facilities for gun owners. The budget document states that the amount is for “the increase in the operating cost of adult correctional facilities resulting from the enactment of sentencing legislation as listed”. The document then proceeds to list various firearm proposed legislation. According to the document, the amount will be payable to the Corrections Special Reserve Fund.
The Governor also requested an additional $50,000 in EACH of the following five areas related to gun legislation:
The execution and enforcement of “red flag laws” to confiscate firearms from people accused of being a threat to themselves or others without any crime being committed;
The execution and enforcement of a prohibition of sale, possession, and transport of firearms designated as “assault weapons,” trigger activators, and suppressors;
Increasing the penalty for allowing a child’s (defined as any person under the age of 18) access to an unsecured firearm. This covers any scenario, including self-defense during a home invasion;
The execution and enforcement of universal background checks for private sales;
The execution and enforcement of a prohibition of the possession of firearms for persons subject to final orders of protection (including those automatically ordered during a divorce).
These provisions are found in section Q of his budget proposal at the end of the document. If the budget is approved, taxpayers will pay more towards the incarceration of the law-abiding citizens at the expense of more tax dollars. Such actions will lead to further backlash with the already furious public resisting the enactment of unconstitutional laws within the state.
Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is pushing universal background checks in our state, and if left unchecked, it will not be long until we see bills like this getting traction in Austin. Texas is embarrassingly ranked 29th for gun rights, and with the help of the political elites in Austin, we will surely rank among New York, California, and Illinois if left to their own devices. Please join our fight today, and help us restore Texas' place as the standard for the U.S.
