Residents in Virginia are preparing for an armed rally as the first Virginia Democratic governor pushes for new gun control legislation. The Virginia Citizens Defense League is organizing the protests in opposition to Democratic Governor Ralph Northam new gun control legislation. The residents hope that the march will persuade lawmakers to oppose the proposed gun legislation which is unpopular with the majority of Virginians.

It is still impossible to estimate the number of people who will attend the rally but the police are preparing to prevent any incident that might occur if gun control groups decide to disrupt the rally. Some well-known militias within the state have also expressed their interest in joining the procession. The Virginia Capitol police have held meetings with the governor to inform him of the preparations. The law enforcement has also held meetings with the organizers who expressed their optimism for a positive atmosphere during the rally. The protestors will openly carry as the state allows public display of firearms within the Capitol.

Most residents oppose the proposed anti-gun legislation proposed by the first Virginia Democratic governor. Almost all Virginia’s counties have declared second amendment sanctuaries since the election of Governor Northam last year. Over 16 states and 200 counties across the country have taken similar steps to protect their rights to bear arms from gun grabbers.

Some of the contentious issues in the proposed gun control legislation include the ban on some types of firearms arbitrarily labeled as “assault rifles”, universal background checks, and the Extreme Risk Protection Orders commonly known as the “Red Flag” laws. These laws allow the confiscation of legally acquired firearms from law-abiding citizens on mere allegations of possible self-harm or public danger.

Most residents hope that the lawmakers will respect the will of the majority of Virginians and protect their firearms from illegal confiscation.

While Texas is viewed as a solid red state, and though we believe the sort of tyranny happening in Virginia could not happen here, we cannot let our guard down. Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick is pushing universal background check in our state, and if left unchecked, it will not be long until we see bills like this getting traction in Austin. Please join our fight today, and help us restore Texas' place as the standard for gun rights in the U.S.
